Can I Open a Company Without Visiting the UAE?

More and more of our clients start their UAE journey from somewhere else: London, Mumbai, Lagos, Toronto or Riyadh. Many of them ask the same question before anything else: do I have to fly to Dubai to set up my company?

The honest answer is that you can complete most of your business setup in UAE from abroad, and in some cases all of it. A few steps, mainly linked to residency visas and sometimes banking, usually need you in the country for a short visit. In this guide, our team at Ampsy Consultancy explains what can be done remotely, what cannot, and how to plan your trip so it is short and productive.

The Short Answer

  • Company licence: in most free zones and for many mainland activities, yes, it can be obtained without visiting.
  • Offshore company: yes, usually fully remote, since there is no visa or local office involved.
  • Residency visa and Emirates ID: no, these require you to be in the UAE for the medical test and biometrics.
  • Corporate bank account: it depends on the bank. Some offer remote onboarding, but many still prefer a meeting in person.

Why Remote Setup Is Easier Than Ever

The UAE has moved much of its business licensing online. According to a Gulf News report from September 2026, the Invest in Dubai platform now allows investors to obtain a business licence, secure approvals and access government and private sector services through a single digital environment. The Dubai Unified Licence links company data with banks, which has reduced the time to open a corporate bank account from about 90 days to around three days, and a new Dubai Investor Register is being developed so investors only need to provide their information once.

International investors are clearly taking advantage. The National reported in July 2026 that the UAE attracted a record USD 48.24 billion in foreign direct investment in 2025, ranking ninth in the world, and was second globally for new greenfield projects with 1,562 announced. A large share of those founders begin their business setup in Dubai long before they set foot in the city.

What You Can Do Remotely

  • Get advice on your activity, jurisdiction and costs through calls and video meetings
  • Reserve your trade name and obtain initial approval online
  • Submit scanned copies of your passport, photo and other documents
  • Sign application forms digitally, where the authority allows it
  • Sign your Memorandum of Association through a power of attorney or an approved remote process
  • Arrange a flexi desk, virtual office or business centre address
  • Pay government and free zone fees online
  • Receive your trade licence and company documents electronically

What Usually Requires a Visit

  • Visa medical test: carried out at an approved medical centre in the UAE.
  • Biometrics for your Emirates ID: fingerprints and photo are taken in person.
  • Bank meeting: many banks want to meet shareholders or signatories face to face before approving an account.
  • Some notarisation steps: if you do not use a power of attorney, signing a mainland Memorandum of Association may require you to attend a notary.
  • Premises inspections: activities such as clinics, restaurants or warehouses may need you or your representative on site.

Step by Step: Remote or In Person?

Step Remote? Notes
Consultation and planning Yes By phone, email or video call
Trade name and initial approval Yes Handled online by the authority or your consultant
Document submission Yes Clear colour scans are usually enough
Memorandum of Association Often Through a power of attorney or approved digital signing
Office or flexi desk Yes Virtual office and business centre options available
Licence issuance Yes Licence issued electronically
Establishment card Yes Processed by your PRO or consultant
Entry permit Yes Issued before you travel
Medical test and Emirates ID biometrics No Requires a short visit to the UAE
Corporate bank account Depends Some banks onboard remotely; many prefer a meeting

Remote Setup by Jurisdiction

Free zones

Free zones are generally the most remote friendly option. Many accept online applications, electronic signatures and video based identity checks, so the licence can often be issued before you ever travel. This makes them popular with consultants, ecommerce brands and international traders.

Mainland

A business setup in Dubai mainland can also be largely completed from abroad. Your consultant handles the trade name, approvals and office registration, and the Memorandum of Association can usually be signed through a power of attorney. If your activity needs regulator approval or a site inspection, a representative in the UAE can manage it for you.

Offshore

Offshore companies are usually the easiest to form remotely, since they do not issue residency visas or need a local office. They are mainly used for holding assets, owning shares and international trade rather than doing business inside the UAE.

How a Power of Attorney Helps

A power of attorney lets a trusted person or your consultant sign documents and attend appointments on your behalf. If you sign it outside the UAE, it normally needs to be notarised in your home country and then legalised for use in the UAE, followed by attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and translation into Arabic where required. Alternatively, it can sometimes be signed at a UAE embassy or consulate. Preparing it early saves a lot of time later.

Can I Run the Company From Abroad?

Yes, many owners manage their UAE companies from overseas, with a local manager or team handling daily operations. A few points are worth keeping in mind:

  • Residency visa validity: a standard residence visa can generally be cancelled if you stay outside the UAE for more than six months in a row, although Golden Visa holders have more flexibility.
  • Compliance does not stop: Corporate Tax registration, VAT, accounting records and licence renewals still need to be handled on time.
  • Banking: keep your bank updated on your activities and contact details to avoid account reviews or restrictions.
  • Local support: a PRO service and an accountant in the UAE make running the company from abroad much easier.

A Typical Remote Setup Plan

  1. Initial call to agree your activity, jurisdiction and budget.
  2. Send documents by email: passport copy, photo and any corporate papers.
  3. Sign a power of attorney or digital forms as required.
  4. Receive your trade licence electronically, along with your company documents.
  5. Establishment card and entry permit are processed while you are still abroad.
  6. One short trip to the UAE for your medical test, biometrics and bank meeting, often completed within a few days.

Tips for a Smooth Remote Setup

  • Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months
  • Prepare high quality colour scans of every document
  • Start attestation early if a company will be a shareholder
  • Have a clear business profile ready for the bank
  • Plan your UAE visit after the entry permit is issued, so you can complete everything in one trip

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I complete my business setup in UAE fully online?

You can complete the licensing part of a business setup in UAE online in most free zones and for many mainland activities. An offshore company can usually be formed entirely remotely. If you need a residency visa and Emirates ID, you will have to visit the UAE briefly for the medical test and biometrics. Business setup consultants in UAE can handle everything else on your behalf.

2. Do I need to visit the UAE to open a bank account for my business setup in Dubai?

It depends on the bank. Some banks offer remote onboarding with video identity checks, especially as the Dubai Unified Licence has made company verification faster. Many traditional banks, however, still prefer to meet shareholders or signatories in person. For a business setup in Dubai, it is usually best to plan the bank meeting during the same trip as your visa medical and biometrics.

3. How do business consultants help if I am outside the UAE?

Experienced business consultants act as your team on the ground. They advise on your activity and jurisdiction, prepare and submit your documents, sign on your behalf through a power of attorney, arrange your office, process your establishment card and entry permit, and book your appointments, so your visit to the UAE is as short as possible.
